Privacy Policy
Nightingale is a quiet place to read. We built it to respect your attention, and we treat your privacy the same way. The short version: your reading life stays on your device, we collect only anonymous information about which readings resonate so we can curate better, and we never show ads, sell data, or track you across other apps.
What stays on your device
The personal parts of Nightingale never leave your phone. We do not have an account system, and we cannot see any of this:
- Reflections you write
- Readings you save or set aside
- Your reading streak and history
- Your preferences, such as theme and text size
This data lives only in the app's storage on your device. Deleting the app removes it.
What we collect
To learn which readings land and which fall flat — so we can choose better ones — the app sends a small, anonymous event when you start, finish, reflect on, save, or share a reading. Each event records only:
- Which reading it was, its length (1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes), its theme, and its form
- For a reading you left unfinished, roughly how far you read
That is all. These events carry no name, no email, no account, and no device or advertising identifier. They are not linked to you or to each other, and we use them only in aggregate to improve the library. We cannot work backwards from them to a person.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, precise or coarse location, or any advertising or tracking identifiers. Nightingale contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Notifications
If you turn on a reading reminder, it is scheduled locally on your device. We do not run a push-notification server and do not need one.
Service providers
The anonymous events described above are stored using Supabase, our database and hosting provider, acting on our behalf. No advertising networks or data brokers are involved.
During the TestFlight beta
While Nightingale is in beta through Apple's TestFlight, Apple automatically collects crash logs and basic usage information and shares them with us, and this may include your name and email address. This is governed by Apple's TestFlight & Privacy terms and cannot be turned off within the app. It applies only during the beta.
Children
Nightingale is suitable for a general audience and contains curated literary readings. Because we collect no personal information and have no accounts, we do not knowingly collect data from children or anyone else that could identify them.
Your choices
Because the analytics are anonymous, there is no personal profile to access or delete. You can remove everything Nightingale stores about you at any time by deleting the app, which clears all on-device data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version at this address.
